Definition of Form

Definition of Form
The visible shape or configuration of something.

Describing words for form:
  • Shadows
  • 3D
  • rounded
  • square
  • rectilinear
  • puffed up
  • slim
  • fat
  • accelerating
This first image is showing form as panels in the photograph are making shadows on each other which shows the 3D nature of the image. The mass amount of lines created by the shadows within this photograph, for me creates an element of confusion and mystery. Shadows is just one of the ways of showing the 3D nature of a abject which is in a 2D photograph.

This image is showing form by the shadows of the building on the grass as we are able to tell that the building is 3D even though it is a 2D image. The longing of the shadows makes the building seem taller than it actually may be as well as showing its 3D nature. The shadows are sharp and solid which could be portraying the building to solid and strong.

In this third image it is showing the shadow of the stairs on to the wall. This is showing form due to the fact that the stairs create a shadow as 2D objects don't create a shadow where as 3D objects do. It almost looks like there are two sets of stairs due to the shadow being very defined and sharp, it appears sturdy enough to be actual stairs. As well as showing the shadow showing the 3D nature of the stair, it also shows how solid it by the darkness of the shadow.

Lastly in this image the shadow underneath the umbrella is showing form as it shows the audience that the object is 3D rather than just 2D within the image. The shadows appear to have a jagged edge which could be portraying the movement of the umbrella in the wind as well as its 3D nature.

My Definition of form is the 3D nature of an object

Definition of Texture

The definition of Texture
The feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance: "skin texture"; "the cheese is firm in texture"; "the textures of bark".

Describing word for Texture

  • rough
  • smooth
  • bumpy
  • shiny
  • furry
  • slimy
  • soft
  • silky

This image is showing a rough, bumpy texture. The low angle at which the photograph has been taking at, you are able to see the individual bumps with in the texture which makes look how it would feel if you was touching it. The subtle colours allow this photograph to just be focus on the texture and nothing else. Also the lighting is playing a part in showing the texture in a way in which it is hitting the object in a specific way to create a shadow. This makes the texture more easier to see for the audience.

This photograph is showing the texture on a leaf. The close up of the leaf shows all the individual crease on the leaf. This texture looks like it is rough due to all the deep creases in the leaf. The fact that the photograph is taken straight on and you can still easily see the different elements of the texture shows how deep each of the individual creases are and maybe how long it has taken for this texture to form.

This photograph is showing the skin of a starfish, which appears to be rough by the individual circle bumps covering the starfish's skin. Also the lighting is playing a part in showing the texture in a way in which it is hitting the object in a specific way to create a shadow. This makes the texture more easier to see for the audience along with the use of a low angle.

This photograph is of a roll of hay. The texture of the hay appears to be dry however fairly soft by the way it is able to rolled up. The brownness of image is further showing the dry texture of the rolled up hay. In this image, i can almost imagine what the hay actually feels like through the way this photograph is portraying the texture.

My definition of texture is the way of showing how something feels within a photograph.

Definition of reflection

Definition is reflection
The throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it

Describing words for reflection

  • mirror image
  • expression
  • absorption
  • same
  • identical

This photograph is showing the reflection of a can of drink in a puddle. Puddles are one way of creating a reflection. In some cases the reflection from a puddle does not come out as sharp and defined as other reflection however in this case the can can be seen clearly due to the plain dark background that it is contrasting against.

This photograph is showing the reflection of a black and white feather on what looks like to be a mirror. Using a mirror to create reflection is one of the simplest ways there is. The reflection of the feather appears to be blurred and not as sharp as the actually feather. This makes it easy to separate the different between the reflection and the actually feather itself. The black and white stripes are also easily defined in the reflection due to them being simple but bold.

This photograph is showing the reflection of a green scenery which is being reflected on to the lake in the photograph. In the reflected scenery some of the elements appear to be longer than they really are. The fact that the sky is also reflected onto the lake it makes the lake almost look like it is not there and that it is actually the sky.The lake is still meaning that the reflection is able to look sharp and almost real.

This is photograph is showing reflection in two ways. The first way is the reflection on the lake that they swans are in, and the second way is the two swans being opposite each other which almost shows a mirror reflection. The dark water makes the two swans and their reflection standout even more and therefore they appear much more sharp and defined.

My definition of reflection is throwing back of a object.

Definition of Tone

Definition of Tone

Definition of Tone
Tone consist of shadings from white-to-gray-to-black, or it may consist of dark's against lights with little or no grays

Describing words for Tone

  • Dark
  • Light
  • Sepia
  • Darkest
  • Lightest
This image contains two tones, the larger keys on the piano being the lightest tone and the smaller keys on the piano being the darkest tone. Both of these tones contrast each other as one is dark and one is lights which is the simplest way of showing tone in photography.

This image has a sepia tone which is more brown than black. The darkest tone in this image is in the furthest away chest pieces and the darker squares on the board. The lightest tone in the image is shown in the nearest chest pieces and the lightest squares on the chest board. These light tones are then contrasted by darker browns with establish the different players within the game.

In this photograph it has very dark tone which in some cases are completely black. The clouds in this photograph are full of all different shades of tone which makes some of the clouds appear more dense than others. The dark and light tones contrast each other to make the individual elements standout from one another.

This image uses tone to make the horse standout from the background as it has the darkest tone in the photograph, this almost makes the horse become a silhouette as you can just see the basic features of the horse. This image is showing the different tones of brown rather than black which is more commonly used.

My definition of tone is the range from darkest to lightest within a image.

Definition of Depth

Definition of Depth

  1. The distance from the top or surface of something to its bottom.
  2. Distance from the nearest to the farthest point of something or from the front to the back.

Describing words for Depth
  • hollow
  • bottomless
  • shallow
  • deep
In this image the 3 cars gradually become out of focus the further away they are from the camera. This adds depth as the nearest car appears to be the main focus, the fact the you are still able to see the other cars even they are not as defined allow depth to be further shown within the image. This is also due to the fact that all the colours that are uses are bold and simple which contrasted the light blue floor within the photograph.

This photograph shows depth as the trees nearest to the camera appear to be taller and as they become further away they appear to be smaller. The trees also become lighter as they become further away compared to the trees nearer to the camera which are dark green and brown. The person standing at the back of the photograph, looks very small compared to the trees which emphases how far away the last tress are from the camera.

This image shows depth by the field appearing to come to a point the further away it becomes from the camera. This effect is called converging parallels which is just one of the ways of showing depth within a 2D photograph. The sky appears to be very low to the ground in this photograph which i feel add to the depth within the image.

In this image is showing depth as the nearest part of the coke can is in focus and the furthest end of the coke can is not in focus which gives the effect that it is further away and maybe it longer than it actually is. This has been successful in showing depth in this case due to the angle at which the photograph has been taken.

My definition of depth is a way of showing the distance or length of something.
